What Is A Curbless Shower?
Curbless Showers, an important feature in Universal Design, Are Safe, Comfortable and Accessible
A curbless shower is a ubiquitous feature of Universal Design, or ‘remaining-in-place.’ (Universal Design simply means configuring a space to accommodate all users, regardless of age, mobility, or ability.) Because a curbless shower has no lip at the floor, it is more easily accessible for those with limited mobility or in a wheelchair.
Most spas have curbless showers, and the clean, minimalist design can be easily incorporated into a home bath. Many curbless showers have no door, or use a shower curtain for ease getting in and out.
Universal Design Is Beautiful Design
Although curbless showers are highly functional, even utilitarian, they certainly can be beautiful as well. There are hundreds of tile, glass, and fixture selections that run the gamut of urban chic to warm contemporary to spa-luxurious.
